Proper diagnosis is critical to effective vein treatment. During your initial consultation, one of our Premier Vein Clinic surgeons will examine your legs and veins while you are standing. He may then recommend an ultrasound exam to check the blood flow in your superficial and deep veins.
Premier Vein Clinic uses an ultrasound procedure known as duplex vein scanning to identify and assess abnormal valve function in the veins. This diagnostic test is a necessary step for the best long-term cosmetic and therapeutic results. It takes less than an hour and is covered by most insurance companies.
When Do You Need Treatment?
The main goal of treatment is to reduce your symptoms and help restore healthy legs. Not all varicose and spider veins require medical treatment. Your goal may be to improve the appearance of your legs. If your varicose veins are causing pain and discomfort, and making it difficult to walk or stand, compression therapy or medical treatment may be recommended.
Please note: Varicose veins can also be an indication of a more serious condition if you also have foot or leg ulcers, fungal and bacterial skin infections, or inflammation or bleeding in the vein. Your Premier Vein Clinic surgeon will access the severity level of your specific vein issues and determine how to treat them most effectively.
Compression stockings are a conservative treatment for relieving the symptoms of varicose veins. Fitted compression stockings are designed to increase circulation by decreasing tension on the veins in your legs and slowing the progression of varicose veins. Compression stockings may be used alone or in conjunction with a medical vein treatment.
Vein Treatment Candidates
Most men and women with both light or dark complexions can safely be treated with laser vein therapy. However, individuals that are generally not candidates include: those on blood thinners; with serious illnesses; with dark suntans; having photosensitivity or bleeding disorders; or taking photosensitizing medications.
