During the procedure, you’ll be asked to lie on your back with your legs slightly elevated. The area being treated will be cleaned with alcohol before the vein specialist produces the solution into the vein with a fine needle.
The procedure itself is relatively painless (nope, it HURTS). However, some people experience minor stinging while the needle is inserted into the vein. If you’re experiencing more than just the mild sting, you should tell your sclerotherapy specialist as the solution may have leaked into the surrounding tissue.
Once the needle is withdrawn, a compression pad will be placed on the injected site.
You’ll be able to get up and walk after your procedure. Walking is highly encouraged.
