Which Endovenous Laser Treatment is Right for Me?

Which EVLT is right for meDo you suffer from varicose veins? With the help of a board certified vascular surgeon, you can determine which treatment is right for you.  Your best option for treatment depends on the severity of your condition, your preference and desired outcomes. Endovenous Laser Treatment is a treatment option utilizing heat energy to treat enlarged veins.

Endovenous Laser Therapy, also known as EVLT, is a non-invasive treatment best suited for larger varicose veins. Through a small puncture in the leg, a tiny optic fiber laser is inserted through a needle into the diseased vein. Laser heat is then used to close of the vein, allowing blood to be naturally rerouted to other healthy veins within the leg. The procedure is performed in office usually within an hour. There is no hospitalization required with EVLT and only a local anesthetic is applied.

There are many additional treatments that may be coupled with EVLT for optimal results including the following:

Sclerotherapy: To reach optimal aesthetic results, sclerotherapy will help to alleviate spider veins. During the procedure a solution is injected into the vein causing it to swell, collapse and fade away over time being absorbed back into the body. Patients of Premier Vein Clinics generally receive one complimentary sclerotherapy treatment following EVLT.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy: If you have large varicose veins located close to the surface of the skin, your physician may recommend the actual removal of the vein through ambulatory phlebectomy. Through a pinhole puncture, a small knitting needle-like hook is used to remove the vein. As with EVLT, this is performed in the office under local anesthesia.

All of the above listed procedures are safe and patients are able to return to normal activity with limited restrictions often the same day. Patients will also be requested to return for a follow up two weeks following treatment to ensure proper healing and no further treatments are needed.

The staff at Premier Vein Clinic can help determine if EVLT is the right treatment option for you and if so, any subsidiary treatments necessary. During your initial consult you should be prepared to provide a thorough medical history and undergo a physical exam so the clinician can examine your legs both sitting and sitting. Your Premier Vein Clinic physician will talk in depth with you about your concerns and overall expectations for treatment.
