Are You Embarrassed By Spider Veins On Your Legs? Here’s What To Do

are you embarassedDid embarrassing spider veins hold you back in 2014? Keep you in doors or covered up during the hot and humid summers of East Tennessee? Now is the perfect time to begin leg vein treatment restoring your healthy and beautiful legs by the launch of Summer 2015!

Any vein can become enlarged or varicose but often, these appear in the legs. Varicose veins can appear blue, red, or flesh-colored often resembling cords that are twisted or bulging. Some are swollen and raised above the skin. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins but are smaller and found closer to the skin’s surface. Often spider veins do not present symptoms as do varicose veins, but are more of aesthetic concern.  If spider veins are preventing you from wearing skirts or covering up during warmer weather, here are some treatments to consider:

  • This is a common treatment for spider veins involving the injection of a solution into the vein forcing it to collapse. Blood flow in the vein is stopped and it eventually will dissolve. Patient satisfaction remains high in eliminating most visible spider veins and the treatment is relatively affordable for most people.
  • Laser Treatment. Often the smaller spider veins respond better to laser treatment, as they may be harder to inject. With laser therapy, the vein is outlined using laser heat causing a similar reaction in the collapse and dissolution of the vein. Good!!

The most common complaint of spider veins is the appearance. As reflected in the name, they can appear as red and blue webs on the skin’s surface. If you are concerned with developing spider veins, here are some tips to help lessen your risk:

  • Get moving. Physical activity can increase blood circulation and strengthen your leg muscles, promoting healthy blood flow in the lower extremities.
  • Keep them straight. Avoid crossing legs when seated and when possible, take a few minutes to rest with your feet elevated above your heart. This is especially helpful if you spend a significant amount of time on your feet.
  • Protect your skin. Applying sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher should be a general part of your daily routine, especially if you have light skin. Overexposure to the sun can accelerate the appearance of spider veins on your face, neck and legs.
  • Get help. Veins are much easier to treat when they are asymptomatic. Treat spider veins in their early stages before letting them develop into varicose veins with limiting symptoms such as pain and swelling.
