Free Varicose Vein Screenings Help Area Residents Get a ‘Leg Up’ on a Healthy New Year
Monday, November 07, 2011

In an effort to help Knoxville area residents get a "leg up" on a healthy new year, Premier Vein Clinics is offering free varicose vein screenings at four convenient locations the week of Dec. 5-9, 2011.
During the screenings, Premier's vascular specialists will evaluate patients' varicose veins and recommend the best treatment to regain healthy, pain-free, attractive legs.
"We hope that area residents will take advantage of these free screenings," said Dr. Richard M. Young, a board-certified vascular surgeon at Premier Vein Clinics. "Spider veins and varicose veins can be indicators of other serious vascular issues. Treatment improves overall circulation and may prevent serious problems down the road. Conversely, our screenings will help those with benign issues start the new year with peace of mind."
Varicose veins typically are dark purple or blue in color and may appear twisted and bulging - like cords. They most often are maligned for their unsightly appearance; however, they may cause the following symptoms: pain after prolonged sitting or standing; burning, throbbing or muscle cramping; swelling in lower legs; a heavy feeling in the legs; aching legs; or itching around one or more veins.
"We offer several minimally or non-invasive procedures that are relatively painless and require little or no down time," said Young. "Patients are often surprised at how quickly they can get on with their lives and at the improvement to their quality of life thanks to the relief from pain."
Free screenings will be available at Premier offices at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Parkwest Medical Center and Physicians Regional Medical Center and the Premier Vascular Access & Imaging Center on Papermill Drive. To request a free screening, visit http://www.premierveinclinics.com.
